Dex Alternative for Investors and Acquirers

Looking for a Dex alternative for investors? Dex organizes contacts well. Acquirers need who to text today and why. Features, pricing and a decision table.

By Brett Kaufman. 8 years using relationships to build sales pipelines, from political fundraising to a 7 figure business to running matchmaking for two communities. Over 1,000 introductions facilitated.

The best Dex alternative for investors depends on what you want the tool to do each morning. Dex is a strong organized address book with reminders; FRONT OF MIND is built for acquirers and investors who want to see which banker, broker, founder or co investor to text today, why today, and a draft ready.

Full disclosure: I built FRONT OF MIND. So this page credits Dex where it is strong.

Here is the scene. You run a small fund, a holdco or a family office’s direct deals. Your network is a few hundred founders, a few dozen bankers and brokers, a handful of co investors and the lawyers and CPAs who sit next to all of them. You signed up for Dex, synced LinkedIn, and now you have a beautifully organized list of 2,000 people. Monday morning you open it and still have to decide, on your own, which of them matters this week.

That is the gap this page is about.

What does Dex do well?

Dex does organization very well. On its homepage, Dex calls itself “a personal CRM built for people, not sales pipelines,” and lists contact consolidation from 15+ sources with duplicate merging, reminders to keep in touch, notes, tags and groups, a timeline of meetings, calls, emails and messages, pre meeting briefs, and network updates when connections change roles.

It lists apps for web, iOS, Android, macOS and Windows, plus a Chrome extension. It also offers an API and an MCP server for AI agents. If you want everything about everyone in one clean place, that is a serious product.

What do investors and acquirers need that a contact list does not give them?

Investors and acquirers need to know who to reach today, because deals go to whoever is recent. A banker with a new mandate calls the buyers she heard from lately. A founder thinking about a raise or an exit mentions it to the few people who have been around.

That means the useful signal is not “you have not talked to this person in 90 days” on its own. It is the reason attached: the broker just posted a closing, the founder’s company was in the news, the co investor you met at a dinner six weeks ago never got a follow up, the deal in your pipeline has been quiet for 7 days. I wrote about how family offices win the first look in how family offices source direct deals.

Which one should an investor pick?

Pick by the problem you actually have this quarter. Use this as a decision table.

  1. Your contacts are scattered across LinkedIn, Gmail, WhatsApp and your phone, and that is the main pain. Start with Dex. Consolidation is its strength.
  2. You need native apps on Android or desktop. Dex. FRONT OF MIND runs in the phone browser.
  3. You know everyone, but you keep hearing about deals late. FRONT OF MIND. The fix is a daily reason to reach the right person, not a cleaner list.
  4. You make a lot of introductions between founders, co investors and advisors. FRONT OF MIND, for intros to make with dated proof on both sides.
  5. You are heads down in diligence and your banker relationships are going cold. FRONT OF MIND. It flags the quiet ones and drafts the text.
  6. You want both. That works. Dex as the address book, FRONT OF MIND as the 10 minutes every morning.

What does the morning look like in FRONT OF MIND?

It opens on your 10 minutes for today. Each person has a one line reason: they posted, birthday, you met at an event and never followed up, a follow up is due, a pipeline deal has been quiet 7 days or more, their company was in the news, or they are going cold. Posts only show up when they are confirmed to belong to that person, so you never congratulate the wrong partner on the wrong fund close.

Each person comes with a draft, written like a text, 40 words max. Nothing sends without your tap. Capture works the same way at a dinner or a conference: say a name and a sentence out loud, snap a card or a badge, or take a selfie together, and it is filed under the event.

Your contacts are encrypted. No one on our team looks at them, and you can export or delete anytime. FRONT OF MIND is $29 a month. Concierge setup is $500 one time if you want it done for you. If FRONT OF MIND doesn’t surface people in your network worth reaching out to within 72 hours, we’ll refund you. No questions asked.
