Salesforce Alternative for Solo Deal Makers: An Honest Look

A Salesforce alternative for solo deal makers? What Salesforce does better, what it costs in 2026, and when one person needs a daily list, not a platform.

By Brett Kaufman. 8 years using relationships to build sales pipelines, from political fundraising to a 7 figure business to running matchmaking for two communities. Over 1,000 introductions facilitated.

The right Salesforce alternative for solo deal makers depends on what is failing. If you need a configurable deal pipeline, Salesforce is excellent and starts free; if your pipeline is fine and the brokers, bankers and owners outside it are going quiet, FRONT OF MIND tells you who to text today and drafts it.

Full disclosure: I built FRONT OF MIND. Salesforce is one of the most capable software products ever made, and I will be plain about where it wins.

Here is the scene. You are an independent sponsor. You set up a Salesforce Starter seat last spring, built an opportunity for each live deal, and spent two weekends on fields. It works. Then you notice the banker who showed you two deals last year is not in it as anything but a contact record, untouched since March. He is not an opportunity, so no stage, no task, no alert. When his next sell side mandate lands, he will call whoever he heard from last.

What is Salesforce good at for deal makers?

Salesforce is good at being a structured, configurable system of record for opportunities. Its sales pricing page lists account, contact and opportunity management on Starter Suite, AI that “automatically syncs emails, events, and contacts,” built in sales flows and email marketing. Pro Suite adds “greater customization and automation” plus quoting and forecasting. The page also lists the Salesforce Mobile App with “full offline mobile functionality.”

If you want your deal process modeled exactly your way, with reports a lender or partner can read, few tools go deeper.

Where is Salesforce better than FRONT OF MIND?

Salesforce is better whenever the job is structure, reporting or a team.

  • Opportunity pipeline. Stages, amounts, forecasts, quotes. FRONT OF MIND is not a deal pipeline.
  • Customization. Custom objects, fields, page layouts and automation. FRONT OF MIND has almost nothing to configure, on purpose.
  • Ecosystem. Pro Suite includes access to AgentExchange, and Sales Cloud editions add AI agents, Slack and analytics. FRONT OF MIND does not integrate with a marketplace.
  • Teams. Roles, permissions and shared records scale from two people to thousands. FRONT OF MIND is for one person.
  • A native app. Salesforce has a mobile app with offline mode. FRONT OF MIND has no native iPhone app yet. It runs in your phone’s browser and can be saved to your home screen.
  • Free at the bottom. Free Suite costs $0 per user a month.

If you are building a firm that will hire, Salesforce is a defensible choice from day one.

Why does Salesforce strain for one person?

Salesforce strains for a solo deal maker because its power is configuration, and configuration needs admin time you do not have. Every field you add is a field you have to fill. Every report depends on records someone kept current.

The bigger gap is structural. Salesforce is built around opportunities. Origination happens before anything is an opportunity. A CPA mentions a tired client. An M&A attorney changes firms. A broker posts about a new listing in your sector. None of those are records you would create, so nothing reminds you they matter. I wrote more on this in why your CRM failed you for deal origination.

What does FRONT OF MIND do that Salesforce does not?

FRONT OF MIND makes the one daily decision a CRM leaves to you: who to reach today, and why. Say you know 800 people and stay current with maybe 50. In Salesforce the other 750 sit in a contacts tab. In FRONT OF MIND the few worth a text this morning come to you.

After 1,000+ introductions across two communities, storing people was never my hard part. Knowing who to text today was.

  • It opens on your 10 minutes for today. Each name has a one line reason: they posted, it is their birthday, you met at an event 12 days ago and never followed up, a follow up is due, a pipeline deal has been quiet 7+ days, their company was in the news, or they are going cold.
  • It drafts a text, not a campaign. 40 words max. Nothing sends without your tap. It learns from your edits.
  • It only shows confirmed signals. A post appears only if it is confirmed to belong to that person.
  • It captures at the event. Say a name and a sentence, snap a badge or card, or take a selfie together. It is filed under that event.
  • You can ask it questions. Ask Liala “who do I know that is an M&A advisor” and get the people with the reason why.
  • It suggests intros. Intros to make this week, with dated proof on both sides.

How much does Salesforce cost in 2026?

Salesforce starts free and climbs steeply per user. From the Salesforce sales pricing page in October 2026:

  1. Free Suite: $0 per user a month.
  2. Starter Suite: $25 per user a month, billed monthly or annually.
  3. Pro Suite: $100 per user a month, billed annually.
  4. Sales Cloud Core: $195 per user a month, billed annually.
  5. Sales Cloud Advanced: $395 per user a month, billed annually.
  6. Sales Cloud Max: $550 per user a month, billed annually, with Agentforce for Sales.

Salesforce offers a free 30 day trial of Sales Cloud editions, and notes the page is “subject to change,” so check before you buy.

Which should a solo deal maker pick?

Run this five question test. It is the checklist I would use before paying for either.

  1. Will anyone besides you log into it in the next 12 months? Yes points to Salesforce.
  2. Do you need forecasts or reports for a partner or lender? Yes points to Salesforce.
  3. Did your last good deal come from a referral source with no open record? Yes points to FRONT OF MIND.
  4. Have you gone 60+ days without texting a broker who matters? Yes points to FRONT OF MIND.
  5. Will you spend an hour a week on CRM hygiene? No rules out any tool that depends on it.

Mixed answers are common. That usually means both, each doing its own job.

Can you use Salesforce and FRONT OF MIND together?

Yes. Here is how I would split it. Salesforce holds the opportunities, documents and stages. FRONT OF MIND holds the 10 minutes each morning where you text the banker who changed firms, the attorney you last saw in spring, and the owner you met at a dinner 12 days ago.
