Affinity vs DealCloud vs 4Degrees: Which Firm CRM Fits?
Affinity vs DealCloud vs 4Degrees for PE, banking and M&A teams: pricing, setup time, who each fits, and when a small shop needs none of them. October 2026.
By Brett Kaufman. 8 years using relationships to build sales pipelines, from political fundraising to a 7 figure business to running matchmaking for two communities. Over 1,000 introductions facilitated.
In Affinity vs DealCloud, Affinity is the lighter, faster choice for a private capital team that wants relationship data captured automatically at a published price, and DealCloud is the broader platform for larger firms with compliance, multiple funds and an operations owner. 4Degrees sits between them for small deal teams that want warm intro paths fast.
Full disclosure: I built FRONT OF MIND, which is not a firm CRM and competes with none of these at the firm level. I have no stake in which of the three you pick, and every claim below links to the vendor’s own page.
Here is the scene. You are a partner at a 12 person lower middle market fund, or a principal at a boutique bank. The spreadsheet broke last quarter. Three people knew the same banker and nobody knew who called him last. You have demos booked with all three vendors this month, and each one has a comparison page that says it wins.
What does each platform say it is?
Each vendor describes a different center of gravity, and their own words are the fastest way to see it.
- DealCloud. Intapp’s DealCloud page calls it “The deal and relationship intelligence platform for professional firms,” built for regulated markets. It serves private capital, investment banking, legal, accounting and consulting. It lists relationship intelligence, zero entry activity capture, workflow configurability, data enrichment, and conversational and agentic AI. No price is shown.
- Affinity. Affinity’s homepage calls it an AI first private capital CRM, and says “Your next deal is in your network.” It claims 3,300+ private capital firms, 25 billion+ emails and calendar events captured, and 130 billion+ structured relationships.
- 4Degrees. 4Degrees calls itself an AI powered CRM for private market deals and the relationships behind them, for VC, PE, investment banking and M&A advisory, corporate development, commercial real estate and consulting. It highlights warm introductions, 4,000+ signals, and alerts when key contacts change jobs or make news.

What do the vendors say about each other?
Each vendor publishes a comparison, and each one wins its own. Read them as sales pages, but they agree on the shape.
Affinity’s Affinity vs DealCloud page says most firms deploy Affinity across the firm in under 60 days, and describes DealCloud setup as four weeks to two months for initial setup and months long for larger firms. It credits DealCloud with highly configurable pipeline modules for complex IC processes.
4Degrees’ comparison of all three says DealCloud fits “Large PE and IB firms with dedicated operations or IT staff, complex fund structures, regulatory reporting requirements,” and suggests skipping it if “your team is under 30 people, you need to be live quickly, or you do not have an internal operations owner.” It says Affinity fits “Smaller teams that want to move off spreadsheets,” and that its limits show with multiple funds, LP tracking or bulk outreach. It says most firms onboard to 4Degrees “in days to a few weeks.”
Neither competitor speaks for DealCloud. Ask Intapp for its own timeline and a reference firm your size.
Which should your firm pick?
Pick by headcount, fund complexity and who will own the system. Use this as a decision table.
- Multiple funds, LP reporting, compliance review, an ops or IT owner. DealCloud. Breadth and configuration are the point.
- 5 to 30 people, off spreadsheets, want capture and scoring with a known price. Affinity. You can budget it before the first call.
- Small deal team whose edge is warm intros through colleagues. 4Degrees. The intro path gets better with every inbox connected.
- Banking team running mandates and buyer outreach. Shortlist DealCloud and 4Degrees, and ask both how they handle bulk outreach.
- One to three people, no ops owner. Probably none of them yet. See the next section.
When do you need none of them?
You need none of them when the firm is one to three people and the relationships live in your phone, not in a shared inbox.
All three platforms get their power from many colleagues connecting email and calendar. With one inbox, the network map is mostly empty. And the people who send a small buyer deals, the broker you text, the CPA you met at a dinner, the estate attorney who mentions a retiring owner, often never email you at all.
For that shop, a free or cheap pipeline plus a daily nudge is the honest answer. I laid out the options with verified prices in DealCloud alternative for small firms, and the solo case for Affinity in Affinity vs FRONT OF MIND. Revisit the firm platforms when you hire, raise a fund, or an investor requires one.
Where FRONT OF MIND fits
FRONT OF MIND is the daily layer for one person, beside whichever record you keep. It opens on your 10 minutes for today. Each person has a one line reason why today: they posted, a birthday, you met at an event and never followed up, a follow up is due, a pipeline deal has been quiet 7+ days, their company was in the news, or they are going cold. Posts only show up when they are confirmed to belong to that person.
Each name comes with a draft written like a text, 40 words max. Nothing sends without your tap, and it learns from your edits. Ask Liala “who do I know that is an M&A advisor” and get the right people with why. Intros to make this week come with dated proof on both sides.
Where it strains: no shared firm network map, no fund workflows, no compliance layer, no partner reporting. If you need those, pick from the table above.
It runs in your phone’s browser, with no native iPhone app yet. Your contacts are encrypted. No one on our team looks at them, and you can export and delete anytime. It is $29 a month, free for your first 25 contacts and 1 intro. If FRONT OF MIND doesn’t surface people in your network worth reaching out to within 72 hours, we’ll refund you. No questions asked.
