DealCloud Alternative for Small Firms, Searchers and Independent Sponsors

DealCloud is built for professional firms and sold by demo. Here is what a searcher, independent sponsor or small firm can use instead, with verified prices.

By Brett Kaufman. 8 years using relationships to build sales pipelines, from political fundraising to a 7 figure business to running matchmaking for two communities. Over 1,000 introductions facilitated.

The best DealCloud alternative for a small firm, searcher or independent sponsor is a lighter pipeline tool you will keep current, paired with something that tells you who to reach out to today. For most one to five person shops that means HubSpot free, Attio or Affinity for the record, and FRONT OF MIND for the daily nudge.

Here is the scene. You took the DealCloud demo because a former colleague at a bigger fund swore by it. The relationship maps looked great. The activity capture looked great. Then the conversation turned to configuration, onboarding and a quote you would only get after a second call. You are a searcher in month ten, or an independent sponsor with one deal under LOI and three capital partners to keep warm. You do not have an operations team. You are the operations team.

I build a tool in this space, so read my take with that in mind. I will tell you where DealCloud wins, and I kept every price below tied to the vendor’s own page.

What DealCloud actually is

Intapp describes DealCloud as an AI powered deal and relationship intelligence platform for professional firms. Per the DealCloud page on intapp.com, it serves private capital, investment banking, legal, accounting, consulting and real assets firms. The feature list is serious: relationship intelligence and mapping, zero entry activity capture from email and meetings, configurable workflows with compliance built in, third party data enrichment, AI tools, pipeline and deal management, and fundraising and investor relations.

There is no price on the page. You schedule a demo.

None of that is a knock. It is a platform designed for firms with many people sharing one network and one set of compliance rules.

Why it can feel heavy for a small shop

A competitor, 4Degrees, puts the case bluntly in its own comparison of Affinity, DealCloud and 4Degrees. It says DealCloud fits “large PE and IB firms with dedicated operations or IT staff,” that “implementation can take months,” and that you should skip it if “your team is under 30 people, you need to be live quickly, or you do not have an internal operations owner.” Read that with the source in mind. 4Degrees sells against DealCloud. But the pattern it describes matches what a solo buyer hits in the demo: a broad platform that rewards whoever has the time to configure and maintain it.

Here is how I see it. For a small shop, the real cost is not the license. It is the hours of setup and data entry you will not do, which turns the platform into a very expensive address book.

What DealCloud does better

Be honest before you walk away.

  • Firm wide relationship mapping. If ten people on your side each know a few bankers, a platform built to show who knows whom is hard to beat.
  • Compliance and fund workflows. Embedded compliance, fundraising and investor relations matter once you run a fund with LPs.
  • Breadth. Origination, execution and investor relations in one system, if you have someone to own it.

If you are building that firm, or your investors require DealCloud, stay. This page is for the shop that is not there yet.

HubSpot free

What it is. A general CRM with contacts, companies and deal pipelines.

Cost. Per HubSpot’s free CRM page, as of October 2026, the free plan covers up to two users and 1,000 contacts with no expiration date, including contact management, deal pipelines, import and a reporting dashboard. Starter begins at $15 per seat a month.

Best for. A searcher or a two person sponsor team that wants real deal stages for free.

Where it strains. It is built for sales teams, so you will strip out what you do not need, and it is only as current as your last entry.

Attio

What it is. A flexible CRM where you design your own objects, so you can model owners, brokers, target companies and capital partners separately.

Cost. Per Attio’s pricing page, as of October 2026: Free for up to 3 seats, Plus at $35 a user a month billed annually or $44 monthly, Pro at $79 annually or $99 monthly, and custom Enterprise. Email and calendar sync is included on every plan, one account per user on Free and Plus.

Closest to DealCloud on. Automatic capture of email and calendar into a pipeline you shape yourself.

Where it strains. You build the structure and keep it fed.

Affinity

What it is. The closest firm grade alternative, built for deal teams in private capital, with automatic activity capture and relationship scoring.

Cost. Per Affinity’s pricing page, as of October 2026: Essential at $2,000 per user a year, Scale at $2,300, Advanced at $2,700, and custom Enterprise, all billed annually.

Best for. A small firm that wants relationship intelligence like DealCloud’s with a published price.

Where it strains. It is still a firm tool at a firm price. I covered the solo case in the Affinity alternative for solo deal makers.

folk and Dex

If what you want is a clean contact base rather than a deal platform, two lighter tools are worth a look. folk starts at $24 per member a month billed annually, with a 2 week free trial. Dex starts at $12 a month billed annually, with a 6 day free trial and no free plan, both as of October 2026. Both store people well. Neither runs a deal pipeline the way DealCloud does.

FRONT OF MIND

What it is. Not a DealCloud replacement. It is the daily layer that tells you which brokers, bankers, owners and capital partners to reach out to today and why, with a drafted text ready. I built it to run beside whichever record you pick above.

It opens on your 10 minutes for today. Each person comes with a one line reason why today: they posted, a follow up is due, you met at an event days ago and never followed up, a pipeline deal has been quiet 7 days or more, their company was in the news, or the relationship is going cold. Posts are only shown if they are confirmed to belong to that person.

Every draft reads like a text, 40 words max. Nothing sends without your tap, and it learns from your edits. Ask Liala, the built in assistant, “who do I know that is an M&A advisor” and get the right people with why. That is the relationship map question, answered for one person instead of a firm. It also surfaces intros to make this week, with dated proof on both sides.

At an event, say a name and a sentence out loud, snap the badge or business card, or take a selfie together, and it is filed under the event.

Cost. Free for your first 25 contacts and 1 intro, then $29 a month. Contacts are encrypted. No one on our team looks at them. Export and delete anytime.

Where it strains. No fund workflows, no compliance layer, no shared firm network map, no diligence workspace. Keep your deal record where it is.
