Dex vs Folk for M&A Deal Makers: Pricing and Fit
Dex vs Folk for M&A: Dex is a personal address book for one person, folk is a team CRM with sequences. October 2026 pricing and a decision table by role.
By Brett Kaufman. 8 years using relationships to build sales pipelines, from political fundraising to a 7 figure business to running matchmaking for two communities. Over 1,000 introductions facilitated.
In the Dex vs Folk choice, Dex is the better fit for one deal maker who wants a clean personal address book with keep in touch reminders, and folk is the better fit for a small deal team that shares a pipeline and sends email campaigns. Neither one decides who you should text today.
Full disclosure: I built FRONT OF MIND, which sits next to both. So this page gives each tool its due and keeps every price tied to the vendor’s own page.
Here is the scene. You are a searcher in month eight, or a broker with 600 buyers, or an independent sponsor with two capital partners and a deal under LOI. Your contacts live in Gmail, LinkedIn, iMessage and a stack of badges from the last conference. You narrowed it to Dex and folk because both look modern and both sync LinkedIn. The real question is which one matches how your deal flow actually arrives.
What is the difference between Dex and folk?
Dex is a personal CRM for an individual, and folk is a sales CRM for teams. That one line explains most of the rest.
On its homepage, Dex calls itself “The personal CRM for your relationships” and “a personal CRM built for people, not sales pipelines.” It consolidates contacts from 15+ sources, merges duplicates, sets keep in touch reminders, keeps a timeline of meetings, calls, emails and messages, and sends pre meeting briefs and network updates. It lists apps for web, iOS, Android, macOS and Windows, plus a Chrome extension, a REST API and an MCP server.
folk’s homepage headline is “The AI CRM for your entire sales motion.” It is built around pipelines, contact enrichment, messages and sequences across email, LinkedIn and WhatsApp, the folkX Chrome extension, call recording and AI sales assistants. It lists a desktop app and marks its mobile app as new.
Dex vs Folk pricing in October 2026
Dex costs less for one person, and folk is priced per member, so its cost scales with your team. Here are the numbers from the Dex pricing page and the folk pricing page, checked October 28, 2026.

|---|---|---|

Trials: Dex lists a 6 day free trial. folk lists a 2 week trial with Premium features and no credit card. Neither lists a free plan.
Illustrative annual math. One searcher on Dex Premium, billed annually: $144 a year. The same searcher on folk Standard, billed annually: $288. A two person sponsor team on folk Premium, billed annually: $1,152. Prices change, so check both pages before you buy.
Which one fits your role in M&A?
Pick by how your next deal reaches you, not by feature count. Use this as a decision table.
- Solo searcher, deal flow from brokers and owners. Dex. You need one place for every broker you met and a reminder before they forget you. Read FRONT OF MIND vs Dex for the daily side.
- Broker or intermediary sending a teaser to a buyer list. folk. Email campaigns on Standard and sequences on Premium are built for one message to many people. Dex Professional’s mail merge is lighter.
- Independent sponsor with a partner or analyst. folk. A shared pipeline means both of you see which capital partner and which seller is where.
- Super connector making intros across two communities. Dex, for the personal timeline and notes on each person. folk’s strength is selling, which is not what you do.
- Heavy LinkedIn network, thousands of connections. Dex Professional, at up to 9,000 synced connections, or folk with its extension. Check limits against your count.
- You need native phone apps today. Dex lists iOS and Android. folk marks mobile as new.
Where does each one strain for deal makers?
Dex strains when more than one person works the deal, and folk strains when you are one person who never runs campaigns.
Dex is built for your own relationships. Once an analyst joins, you are on the Team plan at $40 per user, priced above folk Standard. folk is built for a sales motion: enrichment credits, message caps per member, sequences. A searcher who sends six careful texts a week pays for machinery aimed at a sales team.
Both share one gap. They store people and remind you. Neither looks across 1,000 contacts and says this broker just posted a closing, this owner you met at a dinner 12 days ago never heard back, this deal has been quiet for a week. You still open the app and decide on your own who matters. That decision is the part that dies when you are deep in diligence. I covered the wider field, including Attio and Mesh, on personal CRM comparisons.
Where FRONT OF MIND fits next to either
FRONT OF MIND does not replace your address book or your pipeline. It opens on your 10 minutes for today. Each person has a one line reason why today: they posted, a birthday, you met at an event and never followed up, a follow up is due, a pipeline deal has been quiet 7+ days, their company was in the news, or they are going cold. Posts only show up when they are confirmed to belong to that person.
Each name comes with a draft written like a text, 40 words max. Nothing sends without your tap, and it learns from your edits. Ask Liala out loud, “who do I know that is an M&A advisor,” and get the right people with why. At an event, say a name and a sentence out loud, snap a card or badge, or take a selfie together, and it is filed under the event.
There is no native iPhone app yet. It runs in your phone’s browser and you can save it to your home screen. Your contacts are encrypted. No one on our team looks at them, and you can export and delete anytime.
It is $29 a month, free for your first 25 contacts and 1 intro. Concierge setup is $500 if you want it done for you. If FRONT OF MIND doesn’t surface people in your network worth reaching out to within 72 hours, we’ll refund you. No questions asked.
How I would choose
Here is how I would run it. If you are solo, start with Dex for the record. If you share deal flow with a partner or send to a buyer list, start with folk. The head to head on folk is in FRONT OF MIND vs folk. Then add the morning list if names keep going quiet.
