CRM for Angel Investors: Founders, Co Investors, Deal Flow

A CRM for angel investors should track founders you passed on, co investors who bring you into rounds, and who to text today. Tools compared, with prices.

By Brett Kaufman. 8 years using relationships to build sales pipelines, from political fundraising to a 7 figure business to running matchmaking for two communities. Over 1,000 introductions facilitated.

A CRM for angel investors should track people, not just companies: the founders you passed on, the co investors who bring you into rounds, and the founders you backed who now send you deal flow. The best one tells you who to text this week and why, without turning your angel investing into data entry.

Here is the scene. A founder you met 14 months ago announces a Series A. You remember the pitch. You remember telling her to come back when she had revenue. She never came back, because you never followed up, and the round is full.

That is the angel’s version of losing a deal to silence. Nobody told you no. You just were not the name she thought of.

Why do angel investors need a different CRM than a VC fund?

Because a fund tracks a pipeline across a team, and an angel tracks a network alone. Fund platforms are built for shared history, permissions and partner meetings. A solo angel needs one thing in the morning: which founder, co investor or referrer to text, and the reason.

The pricing shows the gap. Affinity’s pricing page lists Essential at $2,000 per user per year, Scale at $2,300 and Advanced at $2,700, with no free plan. Affinity’s mobile page names venture capital, private equity, investment banking and family offices as the firms it is built for. It is a strong tool for a deal team. It is a lot of tool for one person.

What should a CRM for angel investors track?

Track five kinds of people, each with a last touch date and one line on what they said. That is the whole schema. Here is the decision table I would start with.

Who What to log When to touch
Founders you passed on Exactly why, and what would change your mind When that thing happens
Founders you backed Their last update and their last ask Every update, and when they hire or raise
Co investors Which deals you shared and who invited whom After every round you do together
Referrers (lawyers, accelerator staff, operators) Who they sent you and what came of it Within a week of every referral
Founders who asked for intros Who you promised and whether you made it Until the intro is done

The first row is where the money is. A pass is not a no. It is a dated condition: come back with revenue, a cofounder, a signed pilot. Write the condition down, and the next time that founder posts about a pilot, you have a reason to text first.

The fourth row is where the reputation is. Referrers keep sending deals to the angels who close the loop. Thank them, tell them what happened, and they remember you next time.

How do the common tools compare for angels?

Pick by team size and by whether you want a database or a daily list. Prices below are from each vendor’s pricing page as of October 2026. Full disclosure: I built FRONT OF MIND, so weigh my row with that in mind.

Tool Starting price Best fit for an angel
Spreadsheet Free You will update it for two weeks
Notion Free for individuals, Plus $10 a seat monthly or $8 yearly Flexible notes, reminders are manual
Attio Free up to 3 seats, Plus $44 monthly or $35 yearly An angel group building its own setup
folk Standard $30 a member monthly or $24 yearly, 2 week trial Contact lists with email sync and a LinkedIn extension
Affinity $2,000 per user per year Funds and teams with shared deal flow
FRONT OF MIND Free for 25 contacts and 1 intro, then $29 a month A solo angel who wants who to text today

Attio deserves a fair word. Its free plan includes real time contact syncing and automatic enrichment for up to 3 seats, and VC firm Seedcamp runs its deal flow on Attio with custom objects and workflows, per Attio’s Seedcamp story. If you co invest as a small group and like building your own system, start there.

For a longer look at the tradeoffs, see personal CRM comparisons and Affinity vs FRONT OF MIND. If you invest alongside acquiring, the Dex alternative for investors covers that overlap.

How many founders can one angel actually keep warm?

Fewer than you think, which is why the system matters. Illustrative math: say you take 60 founder meetings a year, back 4, and pass on 56. Add 20 co investors and 15 referrers. That is about 95 people a year who could send your next check, and you will hear from maybe a dozen unless you reach out first.

Of the 56 passes, a few will hit the condition you named. You will not know which ones unless something watches for it. That is the job of the tool, not your memory.

What does a 10 minute weekly routine look like?

Here is the checklist I would run every Monday.

  1. Scan the passes. Did any founder you passed on hit the condition you wrote down? Text them.
  2. Read portfolio updates. Reply to the ask in each one, even if the answer is no.
  3. Touch one co investor. Share a deal, a hire, or a founder worth meeting.
  4. Close one referral loop. Tell a referrer what happened with the founder they sent.
  5. Clear one promised intro. If you said you would connect a founder to an investor, do it. The rules on paid investor intros are worth knowing first, covered in how to make introductions to investors.

Here is how I would run it

You open FRONT OF MIND to your 10 minutes for today. Each person has a one line reason why today: a founder posted, a co investor’s company was in the news, you met someone at an event and never followed up, a relationship is going cold. Posts only show up if they are confirmed to belong to that person.

Each draft is written like a text, 40 words max. Nothing sends without your tap, and it learns from your edits. Ask Liala out loud, “who do I know who invests in fintech,” and get the right people with why. Intros to make this week come with dated proof on both sides.

FRONT OF MIND has no native iPhone app yet. It runs in your phone browser and you can save it to your home screen. Your contacts are encrypted. No one on our team looks at them. Export or delete anytime.

If FRONT OF MIND doesn’t surface people in your network worth reaching out to within 72 hours, we’ll refund you. No questions asked.
