Investor CRM for Founders: Run a Raise, Drop No One
An investor CRM for founders tracks who introduced you, what each investor said, and who to follow up with today. Affinity, Attio, folk and Notion compared.
By Brett Kaufman. 8 years using relationships to build sales pipelines, from political fundraising to a 7 figure business to running matchmaking for two communities. Over 1,000 introductions facilitated.
An investor CRM for founders tracks every investor conversation as a relationship with a date, an exact quote and a next step, not just a stage on a board. Affinity, Attio, folk and Notion can all hold the list; the real question is which one tells you who to follow up with today while you keep running the company.
Here is the scene. Week five of the raise. You have had 40 first meetings. A partner at a fund you liked said “send me the Q3 numbers when they close.” Q3 closed nine days ago. You forgot, because a customer escalation ate your week, and she has moved on to the next deck.
Raises rarely die from a single no. They stall from 40 small follow ups that slip at once.
What should an investor CRM for founders track?
Five fields per investor, and nothing else until the round closes. More fields means more admin, and more admin means the tracker dies.
- Who introduced you. The introducer is a relationship too. You owe them an update either way.
- Last touch date. The single most useful number in a raise.
- Exactly what they said. “Too early” is a label. “Come back at $1M ARR” is a reason to text later.
- The agreed next step and its date. End every call by agreeing on one.
- What would turn a pass into a yes. A pass with a condition is a future investor.
I learned the value of field three in political fundraising. I raised $3M with a manual tracking system, and the edge was writing down what each person actually told me so the next call picked up where the last one ended.
How do Affinity, Attio, folk and Notion compare for a raise?
Each one is good at something. Here is a fair read using each vendor’s pricing page as of October 2026. Full disclosure: I built FRONT OF MIND, so weigh my row with that in mind.
| Tool | Price | Where it fits a founder |
|---|---|---|
| Notion | Free for individuals, Plus $10 a seat monthly or $8 yearly | Cheap, flexible tracker; reminders and updates are manual |
| Attio | Free up to 3 seats, Plus $44 monthly or $35 yearly | Structured pipeline with email sync and enrichment |
| folk | Standard $30 a member monthly or $24 yearly, 2 week free trial | Email sync, LinkedIn extension, sequences on Premium |
| Affinity | Essential $2,000 per user per year, no free plan | Built for investment firms, overkill for one founder |
| FRONT OF MIND | Free for 25 contacts and 1 intro, then $29 a month | Who to follow up with today and why |
Notion is where many founders start, and for a raise of 20 investors it can be enough. Where it breaks is the follow up itself: nothing tells you the partner went quiet. More in where a Notion personal CRM breaks.
Attio is the strongest database of the group for a founder who wants structure. Its free plan includes real time contact syncing and automatic enrichment for up to 3 seats, and each plan syncs at least one email account per user, per Attio’s pricing page. Compare it in FRONT OF MIND vs Attio, or see every option side by side in personal CRM comparisons.
folk is good when the raise runs on email and LinkedIn. Every plan includes email sync and a LinkedIn extension, and Premium at $48 yearly or $60 monthly adds email sequences. Be careful with sequences in a raise. Investors can tell a template from a note. See FRONT OF MIND vs folk.
Affinity is the investor side’s tool. Its mobile page names venture capital, private equity and investment banking as the firms it is built for. Knowing that your investors probably score relationship strength this way is useful. Paying $2,000 a year to do the same is not.
When do investor conversations go cold during a raise?
At the handoffs: after the first meeting, after a partner meeting, and after a pass. Here is the timeline I would plan around, illustrative and not a promise.
| Stage | Where it slips | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Intro made | You never thank the introducer | Thank you the same day, update after the meeting |
| First meeting | No next step agreed | Recap with the one thing they asked for |
| Promised materials | You send late | Send within 48 hours, with one new fact |
| Partner meeting | Silence for a week | One short note with real news |
| Pass | You never ask why | Ask what would change it, log the answer |
| Close | You forget the passes and the introducers | Close announcement to both |
The last row is the one that pays in the next round. The investors who passed with a condition are your warmest conversations for the next raise. The introducers are the people who will do it again.
Who should you follow up with first today?
Start with whoever has a promised next step that is overdue, then active partner conversations, then introducers. In order:
- Overdue promises. Anything you said you would send. Send it now.
- Live partner conversations. Anyone past the first meeting who has gone quiet a week.
- Introducers. Thank them and tell them what happened.
- Soft passes with a condition. If the condition just happened, text them.
- New warm intros. Ask your existing investors for one each, using a warm intro request template.
Here is how I would run it
You open FRONT OF MIND to your 10 minutes for today. Each person has a one line reason why today: a follow up is due, a deal in your pipeline has been quiet 7 days, an investor posted, their firm was in the news. Posts only show up if they are confirmed to belong to that person.
Each draft is written like a text, 40 words max. Nothing sends without your tap, and it learns from your edits so the next one sounds like you. Ask Liala out loud, “who do I know that invests in seed stage software,” and get the right people with why.
FRONT OF MIND has no native iPhone app yet. It runs in your phone browser and you can save it to your home screen. Your contacts are encrypted. No one on our team looks at them. Export or delete anytime.
If FRONT OF MIND doesn’t surface people in your network worth reaching out to within 72 hours, we’ll refund you. No questions asked.
