FRONT OF MIND vs Mesh (Formerly Clay): Which One Moves a Deal Today?

FRONT OF MIND vs Mesh, formerly Clay: an honest feature table, October 2026 pricing, and which one tells a deal maker who to text today and why.

By Brett Kaufman. 8 years using relationships to build sales pipelines, from political fundraising to a 7 figure business to running matchmaking for two communities. Over 1,000 introductions facilitated.

Pick Mesh if you want a free, automatically organized address book that shows you when people in your network change jobs, move or make the news. Pick FRONT OF MIND if you are a deal maker who wants to open your phone each morning to who to text today, why today, and a draft in your own voice.

That is the short version of FRONT OF MIND vs Mesh. The rest of this page is the long one, with an honest table and October 2026 pricing.

What does Mesh do well?

Full disclosure: I built FRONT OF MIND. So here is where Mesh is strong, taken from its own site as of October 2026.

  • It organizes itself. Mesh says it “brings together everyone you’ve ever met. Automatically organized, intelligently searchable, always up to date.” Its integrations page lists Gmail, Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, iMessage, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, X, Notion, phone calls, CSV, Zapier and Make. (Mesh, Mesh integrations)
  • Life updates. Mesh surfaces “career moves, news mentions, and life updates without scrolling through social media.” Job changes show up on their own.
  • A generous free plan. Mesh Personal is free for up to 1,000 contacts, with reminders, reconnect prompts and birthday notifications. (Mesh pricing)
  • Native apps. Mesh lists apps for macOS, Windows, web, Android and iOS.
  • An AI assistant. Mesh’s Nexus helps you find “reasons to get back in touch” and ideas for outreach emails. (Mesh Nexus)
  • Teams. Mesh for Teams lets a group “see who knows whom” across everyone’s network.

Mesh is the product that used to be called Clay. The old clay.earth address now redirects to me.sh, and the site footer reads “Automattic Inc.”

If a free, self updating rolodex is what you need, Mesh is a strong choice.

One note on card scanning. A customer post quoted on the Mesh homepage talks about scanning conference cards, but I could not find it listed as a feature on Mesh’s own pages, so the table says not listed.

What does FRONT OF MIND do that Mesh doesn’t?

Mesh tells you what changed. FRONT OF MIND tells you who to text about it this morning, and hands you the text. Here is what that means in plain words.

  • Research on what your contacts posted this week. It reads what people in your network posted on LinkedIn, X, Instagram and in the news. A post is only shown when it is confirmed to be that person, and every item is dated.
  • Drafts in your own texting voice. Record your voice once in Settings. Every draft is a short text, 40 words max, that sounds like you texting a broker you know. It learns from your edits. Nothing sends without your tap.
  • Intros with dated proof on both sides. Each week it shows intros worth making, with a dated reason on each side, so both people know why now.
  • A weekly report. Messages sent, replies, meetings booked, deals, and the best story of the week. You can trace the post, the text, the reply, the meeting and the deal.
  • Event capture. Say a name and a sentence out loud, snap a business card or badge, scan a LinkedIn, Instagram or badge QR code, or take a selfie together. It is filed under the event, with a follow up text that includes your booking link.
  • Ask your network a question. Ask Liala “who do I know that is an M&A advisor” or “who lives in Miami” and get the right people.

What it does not have, so you know: no native iPhone app yet, no shared team pipelines, no email sequences or campaigns, no CRM integrations, and no digital business card of your own.

Where is the money in a list of who to text today?

The money is in timing. A life update is only worth something if you act on it before someone else does.

Who to text today and why. Say a banker in your network just moved to a new firm. Mesh would surface the job change. FRONT OF MIND puts her at the top of your 10 minutes with the reason, “changed firms, posted about it Tuesday,” and a draft. She is building a new book of relationships this month. The buyers who reach her first are the ones she sends the next sell side look.

The intro that pays you. Say a CPA you know posted that a long time client is thinking about retiring, and a searcher you know just told you he is looking in that exact industry. That is an intro with a dated reason on both sides. Make it this week and you are the person both of them remember when the deal closes. Make it next quarter and the moment is gone.

The deal that finds you because you were recent. Brokers and bankers call whoever they heard from last. If you texted a broker about his new listing two weeks ago, you are top of mind when the off market one crosses his desk.

That is the same lesson from my fundraising years. I raised $3M because I logged what mattered to each donor and used it in every follow up. It worked, and it took hours a week by hand. FRONT OF MIND is that system, done for you in 10 minutes.

How would I choose between FRONT OF MIND and Mesh?

Pick Mesh if you want a free, self updating view of everyone you know, native apps, or a shared network for a small team.

Pick FRONT OF MIND if your income depends on who calls you first, and you want to start every day knowing who to text, why today, and what to say.

You can also use both: Mesh as the rolodex, FRONT OF MIND as the 10 minutes that turns it into deals. For more head to heads, see Clay personal CRM alternatives for deal makers, FRONT OF MIND vs folk, and every comparison at personal CRM comparisons.
