UpHabit Alternative: Export Your Contacts, Then Where to Go
UpHabit shut down its personal CRM apps in April 2026. How to export your contacts, and the best UpHabit alternative for you, with October 2026 prices.
By Brett Kaufman. 8 years using relationships to build sales pipelines, from political fundraising to a 7 figure business to running matchmaking for two communities. Over 1,000 introductions facilitated.
UpHabit removed its personal CRM apps as of April 9, 2026, so your first job is to export your contacts from the mobile app while it still works. Then put that file into iCloud or Google Contacts, and pick an UpHabit alternative by the one job you actually used it for.
Full disclosure: I built FRONT OF MIND, one of the tools below. I will be fair to every option, and I will say where the others beat mine.
Here is the moment most people land on this page. You open UpHabit to check what you wrote about a banker before a call. Or you try the web app and it is gone. Years of notes on the people who send you deals, sitting in an app whose company has stopped building it. The data is still on your phone. The clock is running on how long that stays true.
Did UpHabit shut down?
Yes. UpHabit’s home page now reads, word for word: “UpHabit’s Personal CRM Apps have been removed as of Thursday, April 9th 2026.” (UpHabit)
The message under it says the company built the product for “8+ years,” that “it wasn’t a commercial success,” and that it made “the difficult decision to close down the web and mobile apps to reduce our costs.” Then the part that matters to you: “The mobile apps will continue to work, but we strongly advise you going to Settings > Export All Contacts to get a copy of your data.”
I checked the page on October 28, 2026. “Continue to work” is not a promise of how long. Export today.
How do I export my contacts from UpHabit?
Use the export UpHabit names, then import the file into a contacts account you control. Only these steps are documented, by UpHabit, Apple and Google.
- Open the UpHabit mobile app. The web app is closed. The phone app is the only way in.
- Go to Settings, then Export All Contacts. That is UpHabit’s own instruction. Save the file somewhere you will find it, like iCloud Drive or Google Drive, or email it to yourself.
- Check the file extension. UpHabit’s page does not say which format it exports. A .vcf file is a vCard. A .csv file is a spreadsheet.
- For a .vcf file, import it into iCloud. On a computer, go to icloud.com/contacts, select the Add button, choose Import Contact, and select the vCard. Apple notes that a vCard with several people becomes a separate entry for each one. (Apple: import or export contacts on iCloud.com)
- For a .csv or .vcf file, you can import it into Google Contacts. On a computer, go to Google Contacts, click Import on the left, Select file, choose your file and click Import. Google says that if a detail is missing after import, check the contact’s notes section. (Google: import your contacts into Google Contacts)
- Open a few contacts you care about and check them. Look for the notes you wrote in UpHabit. If the details that matter did not come through, copy them by hand while the app still opens. Start with the ten people most likely to send you a deal.
- Keep the original file. Do not delete it after the import. It is your backup.
Once your contacts live in iCloud or Google, you are not locked into a choice today. You can try a new tool without betting your network on it.

Sources: Dex, Mesh, folk, Covve, Cloze, Monica, Nat.
One warning on Monica. Its pricing page says “Registration is currently closed,” and its October 26, 2026 post says new account creation was paused because a new version is close, while existing users can still log in. (Monica blog) If you are leaving UpHabit today, you may not be able to sign up for hosted Monica yet. Self hosting is still open.
Which UpHabit alternative fits how you used it?
Match the tool to the habit, not the feature list. This is the decision table I would use.
| What you used UpHabit for | Where to move |
|---|---|
| Reminders to keep in touch, set on your own schedule | Dex or Mesh |
| A free home for up to 1,000 people | Mesh Personal |
| Notes on people that live mostly in email | Cloze or Nat |
| Logging cards from every conference | Covve |
| A private record you control completely | Monica, self hosted |
| A shared list your partner or associate also works | folk or Cloze |
| Knowing who to reach out to this morning, and what to say | FRONT OF MIND |
Two of these list contact import right on their pricing pages: Dex lists Contact Import and two way contact sync, and Mesh says you can easily import people. For any tool, confirm how it imports before you pay.
Where does FRONT OF MIND fit?
FRONT OF MIND is for people whose income comes from who calls them first. It does not wait for you to decide who matters. It opens on your 10 minutes for today.
- A one line reason per person. They posted, a birthday, you met at an event 12 days ago and never followed up, a follow up is due, a pipeline deal has been quiet 7 days or more, their company was in the news, or they are going cold. Posts only show if they are confirmed to belong to that person.
- A drafted text. Every draft is 40 words max, written like a text. Nothing sends without your tap, and it learns from your edits.
- Capture in the room. Say a name and a sentence out loud, snap a business card or badge, or take a selfie together. It is filed under the event.
- Ask Liala. “Who do I know that is an M&A advisor” or “who lives in Miami,” and you get the right people with why.
- Intros to make this week, with dated proof on both sides.
Where it is weaker: there is no native iPhone app yet. It runs in your phone’s browser, and you can save it to your home screen. Dex, Mesh, folk, Covve and Cloze have native apps. There is no team pipeline and no self hosting. A $500 Concierge setup is available if you want it done for you.
If FRONT OF MIND doesn’t surface people in your network worth reaching out to within 72 hours, we’ll refund you. No questions asked.
How do you avoid this happening again?
Check the exit before you import. UpHabit gave its users a working export, which is the right way to close. Not every tool will.
Before you load your network anywhere, confirm three things: an export in vCard or CSV, what happens to your data if you cancel, and how delete works. I wrote the full checklist in what happens to my contacts if I cancel. Keep your master copy in iCloud or Google Contacts, and let any app sit on top of it.
