Best Personal CRM in 2026, If Your Income Comes From Your Network
Dex, folk, Mesh (formerly Clay), Covve, Monica, Attio and FRONT OF MIND, judged on one question: does it tell you who to contact today, and why?
By Brett Kaufman. 8 years using relationships to build sales pipelines, from political fundraising to a 7 figure business to running matchmaking for two communities. Over 1,000 introductions facilitated.
The best personal CRM is the one that tells you who to contact today and why, because storing people was never the hard part. For a clean address book pick Dex or Mesh, for a team pipeline pick folk or Attio, for scanning cards pick Covve, for hosting it yourself pick Monica, and if your income comes from who calls you first, pick the one that does the deciding for you.
Full disclosure: I built FRONT OF MIND, one of the seven tools below. So I will tell you plainly where each one beats mine.
You know how this goes. You come home from an event with a stack of cards on top of the 1,100 names already in your phone. You spend a Sunday importing everyone into a new app. By Thursday you have stopped opening it, because it was waiting for you to decide who mattered, and you had calls all day.
The tool did not fail at storing. It failed at the morning.
The four questions I judge every tool on
If deals, referrals and introductions arrive through people who thought of you at the right moment, a personal CRM has one job: keep you in front of the right people before someone else is. So I ask four things.
- Does it tell you who to contact today, and why? Not a reminder you set three months ago. A reason that is true this week.
- Does it draft the message? And does that draft sound like a text from you, or like a sales email?
- Does it work from your phone? Your pipeline is your phone. If capture and follow up only work at a desk, they will not happen.
- What does it cost? Price is rarely the objection for this reader. Time is. Still, you should know.
Every price and feature below comes from the vendor’s own pricing or home page as of October 2026. Prices change, so check before you buy. If I could not confirm something on the vendor’s page, I left it out.
Dex
Dex calls itself “the personal CRM for your relationships.” It syncs LinkedIn, email and calendar, and it is one of the most polished address books in the category.
- Who today and why. Dex offers keep in touch reminders so relationships do not go cold. You set the rhythm. Its research credits build a briefing on a contact: background, current role and what changed since you last talked. (Dex pricing)
- Drafts the message. I did not find message drafting on Dex’s home or pricing page.
- Phone. Yes. Dex lists mobile, web and desktop apps, plus a Chrome extension. (Dex)
- Price. Premium is $12 a month billed annually or $20 monthly. Professional is $20 billed annually or $34 monthly. Team is $40 per user a month. 6 day free trial, no free plan.
Where Dex is better than mine. LinkedIn sync, native apps on every platform, and a research briefing before a call. If you want one beautiful home for everyone you know, Dex is a strong pick. The head to head is in FRONT OF MIND vs Dex.
folk
folk describes itself as “the AI CRM for your entire sales motion.” It is a team CRM with pipelines, enrichment, sequences and a LinkedIn extension.
- Who today and why. folk has a Follow up Assistant on every plan (200 a month on Standard, 10,000 on Premium) and can suggest a follow up email when a new interaction comes in. (folk pricing, folk)
- Drafts the message. Yes, as follow up emails. It is built around email and pipeline stages.
- Phone. folk lists a mobile app on all plans, marked new on its home page.
- Price. Standard is $24 per member a month billed annually or $30 monthly. Premium is $48 annually or $60 monthly. Enterprise is $80 annually or $100 monthly. 2 week free trial, no credit card.
Where folk is better than mine. Shared team pipelines, email sequences, and email, calendar and WhatsApp sync. If three people work the same deal list, folk does things I do not. More in FRONT OF MIND vs folk.
Mesh (formerly Clay)
The personal CRM that used to be called Clay is now Mesh, at me.sh. Different product from Clay.com, the sales data company. Its tagline is “Every relationship, remembered.”
- Who today and why. Mesh says you “get intelligent prompts when it’s time to reconnect,” plus reminders, birthday notifications and life updates like job changes, moves and news mentions. (Mesh, Mesh pricing)
- Drafts the message. Mesh has an AI assistant called Nexus, described as an “AI navigator for your network.” Its pages did not show me drafted texts, so I will not claim it.
- Phone. Yes. Mesh lists macOS, Windows, web, Android and iOS.
- Price. Personal is free for up to 1,000 contacts. Pro is listed at $10 a month. Team is $40 per seat a month for up to 4 people. Enterprise is custom.
Where Mesh is better than mine. It is free up to 1,000 contacts and it notices job changes across your whole network. As a free living address book, it is hard to beat. See FRONT OF MIND vs Mesh.
Covve
Covve has become a capture tool. Its home page opens with “Your Network. Actually Working.” and a scanner for business cards, event badges and LinkedIn QR codes in 60+ languages, online or offline. (Covve)
- Who today and why. Covve says its AI research assistant can enrich the people you scan and help personalize your follow ups. I did not find a daily list of who to contact on its pages.
- Drafts the message. It says the AI helps personalize follow ups. It does not describe drafting a text for you.
- Phone. Yes, it is a phone app first. You can also create contacts and notes by voice inside the app.
- Price. Essential is $12 a seat a month or $119 a year. Pro is $20 a month or $199 a year and adds event badge scanning. Enterprise is custom. 14 day free trial. (Covve pricing)
Where Covve is better than mine. Scanning accuracy, 60+ languages, offline scanning, and enterprise CRM sync. If your problem is a stack of cards, Covve is built for exactly that. Full comparison in FRONT OF MIND vs Covve.
Monica
Monica is “the open source personal CRM,” built to help you “remember the people you care about.” It has been developed in public since 2017. (Monica)
- Who today and why. Reminders you set, plus notes, activities, journal entries and relationship mapping.
- Drafts the message. No.
- Phone. Monica says its web app works on a phone today, and native iOS and Android apps come after its v3 rebuild.
- Price. Hosted is $9 a month or $90 a year with a 30 day trial. Self hosting is free. As of October 2026 its pricing page says registration is currently closed while the new version is built. (Monica pricing, Monica blog)
Where Monica is better than mine. You can run it on your own server, it is open source, and its pricing page promises no ads and no data resale. If full control of your data matters more than anything else, it is the honest choice. See FRONT OF MIND vs Monica.
Attio
Attio opens with “Welcome to agentic revenue.” It is a flexible CRM that logs email and calls automatically and lets you build your own objects. (Attio)
- Who today and why. Built around pipeline and accounts, with AI agents and auto summaries. It is designed for revenue teams, not one person’s network.
- Drafts the message. Yes, email suggestions written by AI.
- Phone. Yes, iOS and Android apps.
- Price. Free for up to 3 seats. Plus is $35 a seat a month billed annually or $44 monthly. Pro is $79 annually or $99 monthly. Enterprise is custom. (Attio pricing)
Where Attio is better than mine. A real, customizable deal record with automatic logging, free for small teams. If you need a pipeline, Attio does that and I do not. See FRONT OF MIND vs Attio.
FRONT OF MIND
This is the one I built, so read it with that in mind.
- Who today and why. It opens on your 10 minutes for today. Each person has a one line reason why today: they posted, it is their birthday, you met at an event 12 days ago and never followed up, a follow up is due, a pipeline deal has been quiet 7+ days, their company was in the news, or the relationship is going cold. Posts are only shown if they are confirmed to belong to that person.
- Drafts the message. Every draft is a text style message, 40 words max. Nothing sends without your tap, and it learns from your edits.
- Phone. It runs in your phone’s browser. Capture is built for the room: say a name and a sentence out loud, snap a business card or badge, or take a selfie together, and it is filed under the event. Ask Liala out loud, “who do I know that is an M&A advisor” or “who lives in Miami,” and get the right people with why. There is no native iPhone app yet. Dex, folk, Mesh, Covve and Attio all have one today.
- Price. Free for your first 25 contacts and 1 intro, then $29 a month.
It also surfaces intros to make this week, with dated proof on both sides. Your contacts are encrypted. No one on our team looks at them. Export and delete anytime.
Where it is weaker. No shared team pipeline, no email sequences, no card scanner as accurate as Covve’s, and no self hosting. Keep your deal record where it is and run this beside it.
Why the deciding matters more than the storing
Here is the math that made me build it. Say you know 800 people. With memory and discipline you can actively keep up with maybe 50. The other 750 are not dead. They are just quiet, and nothing tells you which of them is worth a text this week.
In political fundraising I ran that job by hand. After every call I logged kids’ names, favorite teams and what mattered to the person, then used it in the next follow up. It worked. It also cost me hours a week. Most tools above take the storing off your plate. The deciding still eats your week, and the deciding is the part that dies the moment you get busy.
That is why I judge a personal CRM by the morning, not the database.
